Choosing the Right Non-Profit Structure
In India, if you want to start a charitable organization, you primarily have three choices: Trust, Society, or a Section 8 Company. Each has its own legal framework, compliance requirements, and operational benefits.
Section 8 Company
Registered under the Companies Act, 2013, a Section 8 company offers better credibility, global recognition, and a structured governance model. However, the compliance burden is higher compared to a Trust.
NGO Trust
A charitable Trust is easier to form and has fewer annual compliances. It is governed by the Indian Trusts Act, 1882.
Choosing the right structure depends on your scale of operations, funding sources, and long-term goals.
